... oh horror!

(so this is my first attempt at writing a horror story--and even if the story isn't horror filled, I know my writing style is xD I'm usually good at coming up with witty, humourous stories on my own but this was an assigned thing I found in a book... wheee...)

It was not night, nor even the verge of twilight. The sun had slunk quietly over the grass edge and illuminated all the dewdrops. A few sounds of early morning rattle echoed in the distance, but things around the drive were silent. It was a witchy house: the low-slung roof; that quiet grey paint; those squinting, shuttered windows; and the empty porch rocker that rocked, rocked, rocked day and night.
Mickey contemplated this as he walked by, hands in the pockets of ratty grey jeans. The old house seemed to have a rhythm all its own; as if it was tapping to tell someone something.
He jumped as a cloud suddenly passed in front of the rising sun. For a moment the earth went black. Mickey could've sworn that one of the windows flashed white just as the world went dark. It was like someone flicking a light switch on and off.
But the rocking chair kept creaking, creaking, creaking. The old, splintered wood on the porch seemed to sing along with it. Curiosity got the better of him and Mickey crept up the side of the porch. The chair seemed to be tapping a familiar beat... what was it? Mickey closed his eyes and concentrated on a particular memory. It was his army-like Boy Scouts counselor, talking about Morse code.
Tap-taptap. "See? Anyone can get a message across just by tapping. Or with light. Here, you try."
Mickey figured out the first beat of the rocking chair. T! It was a T! He continued watching the weather beaten, peeling rocking chair. A rock dug into his knee as he knelt at the edge of the porch. He had it! He counted on his fingers and tried to figure out the last two letters...
THEY ARE COMING

A scream died on the air, and the morning resumed its death-like silence. And the chair continued its rocking, rocking, rocking, telling it's message to whomever would dare listen next.

Ta da! I think this would go more in the catagory of general creepiness (at least, that's what I'm aiming for). It was so random. I mean, seriously, the name Mickey? It's so freakin' mouse like! Bwhahaha. He was such a lame-o, more like no character at all. I think the rocking chair had more personality.
